Personal statement:
This is history. We now begin the steps towards reorganizing a Native Hawaiian Governing Entity. I am a proud member of the Senate and Hawaii Legislature that passed legislation for the State of Hawaii to formally recognize a governance model that this AHA will create and, with ratification, advance as the modern day Lahui. We will never forget our tragic overthrow. To that fact, let us also acknowledge that historically, for whatever reason, governments come and go, but...nations remain. Whether a Monarchy, Democracy, Aristocracy, Theocracy or whatever the archetype advanced, our Hawaiian nation will once again find it's political voice. Let us all stand and be recognized. As a brilliant young woman once said, "Either we're at the table, or we're on the menu." I choose to be at the table. Malama for now.
