Partnership for Community Development (for the Great Chocolate Train Wreck Festival)

Bring a Grammy Award-winning children’s musician to the Great Chocolate Train Wreck Festival

With an extra $8,500, we could:

Bring one of the top children’s musicians to the 2013 Great Chocolate Train Wreck Festival. The 2012 festival drew 3200 people and resulted in a large increase in economic activity. These funds would enable us to retain a 2-time Grammy Award-winning band with a national following that would have significant draw. This would engage a record number of families in discovering the unique history behind this celebration and in experiencing all the retail and dining opportunities in our downtown.

This project will engage community members in CNY's rich culture, heritage and natural resources by:

Bringing additional people, to learn about the local history behind the celebration through a historic exhibit, walking tours, panel talk, and local students’ creative and artistic projects inspired by local history. It will have a positive impact on our businesses: the 2012 festival drove 1000 visits to the 14 downtown businesses sampled, far above their normal level for a Saturday. On festival days, gross sales for downtown Hamilton businesses increase by 13% over days when there is no event.
